Home to Chicory Lane by Deborah Raney

I really enjoyed this christian fiction romance book!
It centers around the parents Audrey and Grant who decide to turn their home into a Bed and Breakfast after their kids move out.
It also follows the story of their youngest daughter Landyn and her struggles with her new family and trying to figure out her future.
I liked the family relationships and the story lines kept my interest and were easy to follow.
This book has the potential to be a great series centering around the B&B and the family members.

About the book: Landyn longs for home, but her mother may have other plans.
Audrey Whitman's dreams are coming true. Now that their five kids are grown, she and her husband, Grant, are turning their beloved family home into a cozy bed and breakfast just a mile outside of Langhorne, Missouri.
Opening weekend makes Audrey anxious, with family and friends coming from all over to help celebrate the occasion. But when Audrey's daughter, Landyn, arrives, the U-Haul she's pulling makes it clear she's not just here for a few days. Audrey immediately has questions. What happened in New York that sent Landyn running home? Where was Landyn's husband, Chase? And what else was her daughter not telling her? One thing was for sure, the Chicory Inn was off to a rocky start. Can Audrey still realize her dream and at the same time provide the comfort of home her daughter so desperately needs?

About the author: Deborah Raney's books have won numerous awards, including the RITA, National Readers Choice Award, HOLT Medallion, and the Carol Award, and have twice been Christy Award finalists. She and her husband, Ken, recently traded small-town life in Kansas---the setting of many of Deborah's novels---for life in the (relatively) big city of Wichita, where they enjoy gardening, antiquing, movies, and traveling to visit four children and a growing brood of grandchildren who all live much too far away.

Stampin Up 2014 Holiday catalog-ordering starts today! #holiday #projectlife #crafts #scrapbooking

I got my new Stampin Up holiday catalog in the mail last week and it totally got me in the mood for the holidays and decorating! I do feel a little guilty thinking about it though since it's not even September 1st!

A couple things caught my eye when I was flipping thru the Holiday catalog.

AND YOU CAN ORDER FROM THE
HOLIDAY CATALOG
STARTING TODAY!

http://www.stampinup.net/esuite/home/bwiseley/

First-take a look at this AWESOME Halloween wreath!!!

LOVE
IT
What do you think?

So I'm going to be totally honest with you. I looked at the price of this kit and the supplies needed and my first thought was, hmmm I wonder if I could make this cheaper myself? I went to Michael's and looked around and just the wreath frame itself is $9.00! I couldn't really find anything else I would need for it at the store so I went home to think about it some more. and then I realized how many times I've bought projects at the store and half finished them because I saw a project on Pinterest and thought I could duplicate it. I either don't finish the project or I TRY to make it and it turns out awful. (my 4th of July door wreath Pinterest creation was awful! There were tears)

So I returned the wreath frame, bought this kit, and signed up for a local SU class so I can put my wreath together with some other gals.

I'm not a SU demonstrator but I've used their products for years and LOVE them, so if you're interested in buying your own Halloween wreath kit, you can buy it from my local demonstrator (Barbara) here:
http://www.stampinup.com/ECWeb/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=135866

The other products from the holiday catalog that I'm excited about are some new Project Life/Becky Higgins/Stampin Up Exclusive products!

If you follow me on Instagram, you would know how excited I get about new products and how much I love Project Life stuff!! Again, I've been using Project Life for years and was so excited to learn that a couple months ago she teamed up with Stampin Up to make exclusive kits just for them.

Stampin Up already has some exclusive Project Life items for sale here:

I only have two of them right now, but I have a wish list started for some more.

I have the Everyday Adventure PL card collection.
Each card collection has 100 double-sided, color-coordinated cards per collection in 3 sizes: 4" x 6", 4" x 4", and 3" x 4". Basic Black, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Pear Pizzazz, Pumpkin Pie, Strawberry Slush, Whisper White.

and Everyday Adventure Accessory Pack
Each accessory pack includes 4 3" x 4" specialty cards. Laser-cut specialty cards; 8 sticker sheets; 1 acetate accents sheet; 8 wood accents; 2 epoxy stickers; 4 arrow paperclips; washi tape.

Have you seen the new Stampin Up Holiday catalog yet?

Do you like to do crafts or scrapbooking?

Here is my local Stampin Up demonstrator's info if you're interested in ordering anything:

The Superwoman's Survival Guide by Ky Furneaux

The Superwoman's Survival Guide: Conquering the Unexpected in the Office, on the Town, or in the Great OutdoorsThe Superwoman's Survival Guide: Conquering the Unexpected in the Office, on the Town, or in the Great Outdoors by Ky Furneaux
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was written by Ky Furneaux who broke her back at age 19 but thru her training and perseverance later became a stunt woman in Hollywood.

Her book is divided up into 4 sections: think positive, be prepared, be adaptable, and educate yourself.

I really liked the think positive section the best! That section talks about attitude, comfort zones, having a mantra, etc.

"Look after yourself in the short-term so that you can defend yourself in the long-term. The healthier you are and the better shape your body is in, the more likely you will be able to deal with unexpected situations."

Her book offers advice like when you're in the city to carry your purse in front of you so that it's not stolen and advice like when you're in the woods and need to find more water. She shares alot of survival skill tips to use in the outdoors, as well as tips in public places.

She also shares personal stories and pictures thru out the book which is fun.

This book is a great resource for women-like a mini boy scout book!

I received this book complimentary for blog review-all opinions are my own.

The Superwoman's Survival Guide: Conquering the Unexpected in the Office, on the Town, or in the Great Outdoors

Book Description:
Just when you think you have everything under control, a situation presents itself that you couldn’t have foreseen or prepared for. That’s life. It’s how you choose to react to the situation that defines you. We have all heard the phrase “expect the unexpected.” The “unexpected” can range from a broken high heel on your way to an important meeting to having to fashion a waterproof shelter in the middle of a downpour.

From her years as an A-list Hollywood stuntwoman and expert survivalist, Ky Furneaux is no stranger to the unexpected, and her ’tude has been key to her survival—and thriving success. In The Superwoman's Survival Guide, Ky draws upon her career of risking life and limb in extreme situations to inspire and empower women in whatever situation they may find themselves, whether it’s on a city street or out in the wilderness.

Throughout the book, Ky explains the power of brain versus brawn and how a cool-headed woman is often more effective in a complicated situation than a big guy with a gun. Ky’s guide is a collection of essential life advice, combined with tricks, lessons, facts, and anecdotes that can help women get over their fear and panic.

The Superwoman's Survival Guide shows women how to adopt a fearless attitude that can help them through all life experiences. It will empower women to feel confident and prepared so that they know what to do when all hell breaks loose.

Veggetti tool-gluten free pasta!

I've been eyeing the Veggetti tool for months now and I finally got one!!

We've been getting alot of squash and zucchini from our garden so I wanted to try this tool to make "pasta" zucchini. It was really easy to use-a little difficult to get the blade clean even though I washed it right away.

I used the recipe that came in the box for the stir fry dish. I used the zucchini noodles, the leftover zucchini pieces cut up, spices, butter, and peppers. Warmed up for a few minutes and ta da!!

My boys loved it!! I should have cut up some of the noodles because they were pretty long.
I loved that I was eating veggies but it felt like I was having pasta because of the noodle texture. Very cool concept!
We used it as a side veggie dish, not as the main meal. Which you could do if you wanted to.

Have you ever used the Veggetti tool? Ever made Veggie noodle  "pasta"?

The Ripple Effect Series-clean romance fiction-Book Reviews

I received this set of 6 books in exchange for a blog book review. All opinions are my own.

You can read more about this series-The Ripple Effect on author Rachael Anderson's blog here:
http://rachaelreneeanderson.blogspot.it/p/the-ripple-effect-series.html

The Ripple Effect Romance Novella Series
"Like a pebble tossed into calm water,
a simple act can ripple outward and have a far-reaching effect on those we meet,
perhaps setting a life on a different course—
one filled with excitement, adventure, and sometimes even love."

This novella series was so much fun to read. Very fast reading, clean, funny and romantic. I  loved how the books intertwined with each other by using a character mentioned in the previous book for the current book. They don't have to be read in order, but the character development will make more sense if you do.

Here are my reviews for each book.
Then read on below to get the official book descriptions and links to buy if you're interested.

Book 1: Home Matters
This story is about Olivia who is a designer on a home improvement show. It follows her thru her new job experiences and kept me guessing as to whether her love interest ends up being Pete or William. I especially loved how Pete and Olivia met at auditions-very funny! Towards the end of the book, character Drew is introduced who is in book 2.

Book 2: Silver Linings
The story starts off with Drew giving all his trust fund money to a charity (Pete's charity from book 1) and moving to Colorado to get away from his family. He ends up staying with his friend Jace and getting to know Jace's girlfriend Eden and the senior citizens at the local assisted living facility. This story is filled with love and meaningful relationships/friendships. Left me smiling.

Book 3: Righting a Wrong
This story is about Cambri who use to live in a small town of Colorado and was friends with Jace (from book 2). After 6 years she returns to her hometown and struggles facing her dad and Jace whom she had left behind all those years ago. We read about her emotional struggles towards her dad and her feelings of regret, guilt, questioning her life...I really love the last sentence of the book when Cambri tells Jace that in looking back she wouldn't change anything because the hard stuff made her a stronger and wiser person. Emotional story!

Book 4: Lost and Found
This is the story about Lydia (Jace's sister from book 3) who lives in the same small Colorado town and goes to visit North Carolina for "adventure". On her return home, her flight is delayed and she meets a great guy named Blake, who is also from Colorado. They decide to "help" each other out while they wait for their return flight home. Blake helping Lydia to find adventure in her life; and Lydia helping Blake find his grandfathers missing box. Along the way they both learn alot about each other and rethink some life choices-filled with adventure, romance, and sadness-love how the story ends!

Book 5: Second Chances
This is the story about Francie (mentioned in book 4), a widowed woman who goes back to school while balancing two jobs as well. She lives in an old house alone while her son is in college and struggles to maintain the house, her jobs, and school. Along the way she meets Professor Alex and a girl named Rose at school and develops good relationships with them. I love how the story shows Francie's simple life and her struggles, but that shes always so caring and loving to others regardless of how busy she is. True example of service to others!

Book 6: Immersed
Sam (daughter of Professor Alex in book 5) helps do a "make under" for Lisette who has her own business of teaching English to sightseers but has a problem with attracting the wrong kind of men because she's so beautiful. Lisette transforms herself into a very frumpy, plain woman in order to keep her business afloat to pay off old debts. Her plan works for quite a while until along the way she meets Erik and then wishes she never did her make under. Funny story-love how it ends!!

Book descriptions:
Home Matters (book 1)
by Julie N. Ford

Description:
According to her mother, Olivia Pembroke was born to be a star. But how is she supposed to be famous when she can't even get a decent acting gig? Her lucky break comes when she lands an audition for a wildly popular home improvement show. Even though she has no design training and has never held a power tool, she refuses to let that stop her. She's confident that her destiny is finally within reach.

When her affections are torn between her heartthrob co-host and the irritating, yet somehow endearing lead contractor, does she continue to reach for the stars? Or does she design a new happily ever after? One that leads not to the fading lights of fame and fortune, but to a love that will burn forever.

Silver Linings (book 2)

by Kaylee Baldwin

Description:

Drew Westfall wants nothing more than to forget what he had to do in the name of "smart" business. Cutting off all ties with his parents—including handing over the entire contents of his trust fund to a charity—he takes off for Bridger, Colorado where his best friend has an extra room for him. It doesn't take long for him to realize that his business degree won’t do him much good in a town as small as Bridger, but he's broke and has nowhere else to go.

Eden Torresi has every reason to wallow. Not only did she have to sell her house to pay for her mother’s medical expenses, but she had to drop out of school and is in a relationship with a guy unwilling to commit. But Eden isn't the wallowing type. Instead, she spends most of her time taking care of the seniors at Silver Linings Assisted Living. When she learns that her boyfriend's new roommate is down on his luck, she reaches out to offer what help she can. But the more time they spend together, the more complicated things get, especially when the seniors of Silver Linings decide to play matchmaker.

Righting a Wrong (book 3)

by Rachael Anderson

Description:

Seven years ago, Cambri Blaine fled her small hometown of Bridger, Colorado after her senior year of high school ended in a fiasco. But now her father needs help, and Cambri has no choice but to return home. So with trepidation, she takes a leave of absence from the landscape architecture firm where she works and heads home, hoping against hope that Jace Sutton is no longer around and that the past can stay where it belongs—in the past.

If only life worked that way.

Jace never expected to see Cambri again. After she walked out of his life without a backward glance, he was left with no choice but to try to forget her and move on. But now that Cambri is back and looking more beautiful and sophisticated than ever, some of those old feelings resurface, and Jace instinctively knows, for the sake of his heart, that he needs to avoid her at all costs.

If only it were that easy.

Lost and Found (book 4)

by Karey White

Description:

Lydia was supposed to have an adventurous and exciting summer. Instead she's done nothing more than read and eat takeout. Now it's time to go home, and what does she have to show for it? A big fat nothing. Unless, of course, her trip to the airport somehow turns into something more than just a flight home.

Blake feels like he's been sent on a wild goose chase. While work is piling up back in Denver, he's on the other side of the country, hunting for some mysterious box that his grandfather left him. Well, no more. Nothing inside that box could possibly be more important than the opportunity to make it as the youngest partner at his firm. So he's going home, and that's that. But that's before he discovers his flight has been cancelled.

When these two strangers meet at the airport, they make a split-second decision to search for the box together. Maybe with both of them on the hunt, Lydia can have her adventure and Blake can find the box. And maybe, if they’re lucky, they’ll even find some romance.

Second Chances 101 (book 5)

by Donna K. Weaver

Description:

Thirty-seven year old Francie Davis, a recent widow and empty nester, gets to attend college at last. She’s sure her luck has changed when she also lands a job on campus that will pay her tuition, as administrative assistant to a history professor. When her handsome new boss yells at her on the first day of work, Francie worries she will never be good enough.

For Professor Alex Diederik, life is going downhill fast. Not only is his bitter ex-wife trying to poison their only daughter against him, but now his one place of solace—his work environment—is being complicated by his attractive new administrative assistant. She drives home his feelings of failure as a husband and father, and Alex wonders if hiring her was the right thing to do.

Francie will have to put aside her hurt and insecurities or risk her dreams, while Alex must look outside himself if he’s to mend the breach with his daughter. And, perhaps, find someone who can help heal his pain.

Immersed (book 6)

by Jennifer Griffith

Description:

Lisette Pannebaker speaks five languages and has a brilliant business plan—personal language immersion. Clients can hire her to shadow them and speak all day in any language they need to learn for business or travel—whatever. But there’s a major hitch: she’s far too pretty. Clients with less than honorable intentions sign up just to have Lisette at their side. Solution? A make-under. Way under.

The bad wig, icky makeup and puffy sweaters work like a charm. None of her male clients show her the least bit of interest. Lisette’s totally relieved.

Until...Erik.

Erik Gunnarson is charming, kind, and smart—everything she’s ever looked for. Every day as his tutor is making her fall for him more. Even though he seems to have a secret, and she’s sworn she'd never date a client, Lisette is tempted to shed her disguise—although it could mean jeopardizing her career.

Bungypump training poles-How do you use them?

Earlier this month I posted a blog post about Bungypump training poles:

http://crafts-n-fitness.blogspot.com/2014/08/bungypump-training-poles-what-are-they.html

Today I wanted to show you some of the ways that I've been using them outside.

Active side bend with both poles
This is really great for the core area!

Deep squats with one pole

Forward lunges with one pole
This really helps with balance and being able to do a deeper lunge.

Crossed lunges with one pole

Back lunges with both poles

Leg swings with both poles
Be careful not to swing your legs up too high or you will hurt your hips.

Knee ups (marching) with both poles

single squats with one pole
my 4 year old wanted to do with me too! ;-)

Of course all these exercise could be done with a walking stick, but I really like the Bungypump training poles because they add the extra weight and resistance.

Here are some other ideas on how to use the training poles:
https://primetrade-inc.com/how-to-use/

Who can use them?

Weight Loss

The benefits of BungyPump have also been recognised by those aiming to lose weight. The increased burning of calories has led to BungyPump being featured on several nationally televised weight-loss competitions, e.g. “Sweden’s Biggest Loser”.

Rehabilitation

One of the unique features of BungyPump is the well-documented benefits offered to those involved in rehabilitation programs. The built-in suspension offers soft and gentle exercise while activating a wide range of muscle groups in the back and upper body. BungyPump is recommended and used by physiotherapists and other medical specialists which has been very important to the success and wide-spread appreciation of BungyPump on the Swedish market.

Regular exercisers

The largest market segment belongs to those people of all ages and from all walks of life who are generally interested and active in some type of regular fitness activity. The benefits of the increased activation of upper body muscle groups when walking appeals to all those interested in simple, regular exercise.

Potential Exercisers

BungyPump not only appeals to those actively involved in regular physical activity, but has proven to be very attractive to those people who feel the need to exercise, but are not motivated to join a gym or find it difficult to start a fitness program. Training with BungyPump is seen as “fun” offering effective exercise at a low cost in a relatively short time. As such, BungyPump easily motivates and touches a demographic in which traditional exercise and training techniques have held little interest.

Elderly people

The soft and gentle exercise afforded by the built-in suspension system holds great appeal to elderly people who wish to continue regular physical activity. The fact that a wide range of muscle groups in the back and upper body are activated when walking offers a very effective way of maintaining a certain level of fitness and well-being.

Occupational / health care

BungyPump is very popular with Human Resource departments of companies, sports associations and other organisations as they are becoming more and more aware of the importance of good health and regular exercise for the well-being of their staff and members. Free training events have proven very popular and have helped raise BungyPump’s profile through the hands-on experience.

Elite Athletes

The fact that BungyPump has been embraced by leading sports and fitness personalities in Sweden has been very important to the success on the Swedish market. Through endorsements from top level skiers, who find BungyPump to be an excellent complement to their training schedules, and opinion leaders in the fitness world who have recognised the unique benefits of BungyPump, we have enjoyed wide-spread acceptance as a serious training product.

Walkers

Many people enjoy walking as a simple and relaxing means of exercise. BungyPump has become very popular as a complement to this as the built-in suspension eliminates any shock to the upper body and so becomes a very natural extension of the walking movement whilst offering far more effective training. In addition, a large number of people who started walking with standard Nordic poles as a means of exercise have now started using BungyPump.

Here's a great article on walking 10,000 steps with BungyPump training poles:
